Manchester United is not experiencing any incomings, but if some claims are to be believed, a significant departure may be imminent.
Marcus Rashford is being considered by Paris Saint-Germain, according to PSG TALK (through Benjamin Quarez of L’Equipe), if Kylian Mbappe decides to depart for new pastures this summer.
Since he joined PSG, Mbappe’s future has been the subject of a protracted transfer saga. The club has already been informed by the French superstar that he will not be signing a new deal.
It is therefore reasonable to assume that the Ligue 1 champions will try to sell him this summer rather than risk losing him to a free agent the following season.
The possibility of Rashford leaving, though, is the part of the report that should be treated with a grain of salt.
Rashford’s interest in PSG is nothing new. The Parisiens were said to have shown interest in the United academy product at the end of the 2021/22 season, when he was at the lowest point in his career.
But over the past 12 months, everything has radically changed.
Rashford has had a breakthrough season for the team, scoring 30 goals across all competitions, and he appears poised to extend his stay with the club by signing a new contract.
United would need to make a huge offer before they would even contemplate the idea of selling.
According to reports, PSG is hoping to start a bidding war for Kylian Mbappe and is willing to pay close to £250 million. For a player who is essentially “Mr Manchester United,” one may anticipate United to demand something in the similar range.
The recent target of a Bayern Munich bid, Harry Kane, is a player who the French champions are also interested in.
Therefore, even though PSG’s interest in Rashford may very well be genuine, the likelihood of them actually consummating a deal is at best unlikely.
