Benni McCarthy joined Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff at Manchester United in July 2022 as a specialized strikers coach.
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has detailed how Benni McCarthy’s play has evolved since joining the team in the summer.
McCarthy joined the Reds as a specialized forwards coach in July 2022, joining Erik ten Hag’s backroom team. This year, the former Blackburn Rovers striker and Rashford have worked closely together, and Rashford has been on fire for United.
Rashford has 26 goals and nine assists in 42 appearances this season, including the Carabao Cup final, which Ten Hag’s squad won 2-0 over Newcastle United to earn their first trophy since 2017.
Despite their recent impressive play and chase of the Europa League and FA Cup this season, Rashford believes United are still a long way from where McCarthy wants them to be.
“I think he has done a good job,” Rashford told SuperSport. “It’s always beneficial for us to have a specific coach who focuses on us as a forwards group.” We’ve worked harder as a team in the future, which has resulted in more chances and goals.
“So, it’s still early days, and Benni will tell you that his ambitions are much higher than what we’ve accomplished thus far.” He continuously pushing us, trying to encourage us to develop.”
Rashford also stated that McCarthy has been excellent to him since his arrival at Old Trafford last summer. The 25-year-old revealed that he analyzes his performances with his coach and talks about methods to improve.
“Benni has been fantastic with me,” he added. As I previously stated, with all of the forward lads… and keep in mind that Benni is part of a full coaching structure, so everyone performs their duties… Benni is actually on top of what we require.
“Yes, his relationship with me is excellent. We talk a lot, and we’re constantly analyzing games and showing me how to improve. Small things that can help me produce more chances, more goals, and even create space for other players. We’re putting forth a lot of effort.”
