Diogo Costa, who is rumored to be a goalkeeper target for Manchester United, would be a “very expensive” signing at Old Trafford, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who spoke exclusively to GIVEMESPORT.
The future of long-term goalkeeper David de Gea at Old Trafford is uncertain, which poses a problem for Erik ten Hag.
Latest goalkeeper news from Man Utd
De Gea’s £375,000 per week contract with Manchester United expired at the end of last month, and the calendar is already turning to July.
The Athletic said that the Red Devils and the number one, who was willing to accept a hefty pay cut to remain with the Manchester giants, had reached an agreement to extend the number one’s contract at Old Trafford.
The same story, however, asserts that United withdrew the offer that de Gea first accepted, leaving the club and player in a precarious situation during the summer transfer market.
United have apparently picked FC Porto goalkeeper Costa as a long-term replacement for David de Gea, with the Portuguese giants supposedly likely to seek £65m for the stopper, who reportedly makes about £24,000 per week.
Costa’s name “keeps coming up” at Old Trafford, according to Sky Sports writer Dharmesh Sheth, who recently told GIVEMESPORT that a transfer for the 23-year-old isn’t completely out of the question.
Romano, however, believes that selecting a choice like the Porto goalkeeper will be challenging because of his “very expensive” nature, particularly if de Gea decides to stay at United.
