Since the 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United, Liverpool’s current roster has suffered three losses in a row, reiterating the fact that it is broken.
Although sources like Fabrizio Romano have stated upgrades at center-half could also be made, a whole new midfield is still required.
Liverpool is reportedly pursuing Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams in other news. The plan would be to sign a dynamic young player with pace to develop who could provide the Reds more strength and dynamism off the bench in late-game situations.
But before Klopp and his recruitment team can embark on a wholescale rebuild, a plethora of exits are required to simply make room. According to various reports, that’s exactly what’s about to transpire.
Firstly, the Sun add a new name to the list of those who’ll depart Anfield this summer – Calvin Ramsay.
The Scottish right-back was an initial £4.2m signing from Aberdeen last summer. The 19-year-old arrived with the intention of providing back-up to Trent Alexander-Arnold once settled on Merseyside. However, his first campaign south of the border has been ravaged by injury.
As such, Ramsay has been limited to just two first-team appearances and just seven overall (including EFL Trophy and Premier League 2).
Alexander-Arnold is no longer being pressured by those behind him as a result. Joe Gomez and James Milner, neither of whom are right-backs by nature, will be used by Klopp in the event that Alexander-Arnold falters.
In any event, Ramsay will need to be moved out on loan next season, according to the Sun, if Klopp wants to ensure that he gets the regular playing time that any developing young player needs.
Although his exact destination is unknown, a move to a Championship team would make sense.
Mass Liverpool clear-out coming
Ramsay is primed to be on the move this summer, though by no means is he alone.
Indeed, Roberto Firmino’s exit as a free agent has already been confirmed by the club.
Joining him as players who’ll leave for nothing are Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, per Fabrizio Romano.
Vice-captain James Milner could also depart if Klopp’s calls for a one-year extension aren’t heeded by Liverpool’s decision-makers.
Elsewhere, third-choice goalkeeper Adrian isn’t in line for a new deal, while Football Insider report three centre-backs could be shown the door.
Rhys Williams, Nat Phillips and Joel Matip are the trio in question, with Williams being lined up for a permanent switch to Blackpool.
Williams impressed while on loan at Blackpool for the first half of the current campaign before being recalled in January.
West Ham and Newcastle are a couple of the suitors for Nat Phillips, who will probably demand a sum of approximately £12 million.
Matip, however, has a contract that expires at the conclusion of the upcoming season, so it makes sense for Liverpool to make a profit this summer while they can.
According to an earlier FI report, Liverpool might receive between £10m and £15m for the 31-year-old player whose form has plummeted this season.
Arthur Melo is the final candidate who might make the exit number 10 instead of 11. Liverpool is not anticipated to use his €37.5 million buyout option after his loan from Juventus expires.
