EXCL: Liverpool closing to sign 23 y/o center back, who Klopp identifies Van Dijk’s future replacement

According to a Football Insider report, Liverpool is eager to add Perr Schuurs to their roster for the upcoming season. In his first season at Torino, the 23-year-old center back has performed admirably, and his efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.

Prior to joining Torino ahead of the 2022–23 season, the Dutch international played for Ajax for a reported fee of £7 million. Since making the change, the 23-year-old hasn’t turned back.

Last season, he appeared in 36 games overall and helped to create three goals. In 32 of the 36 games, the former Ajax defender began the game. Although he is still a work in progress, he has been consistently performing well for the Italian club and has a lot of potential.

Although Schuurs’s deal with Torino expires in the summer of 2026, he could still be moving to Liverpool this season. The Merseyside club is eager to have him join their team, and they undoubtedly have the resources to wrest him away from the Italian team.

In the summer transfer market, Klopp’s top priority was to bolster his midfield. And he has already accomplished that by signing Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister. The Reds have begun their search for a new center-back while they are still making moves for additional midfielders.

Since finalizing the acquisition of Szboszlai, they have been gradually moving toward bringing in a new defender. The Merseyside club has its sights set on Micky van de Ven of Wolfsburg and Goncalo Inacio of Sporting CP. Both of them will strengthen Liverpool’s defensive unit upon joining, but it will cost the team money to bring them in.

Schuurs, on the other hand, is a much more affordable choice and undoubtedly checks many of the German manager’s boxes. Additionally, Liverpool views him as a young player with the potential to become a top-notch defender. They are prepared to make the signing of the 23-year-old Dutch international a priority as a result.
