David Beckham has shown his excitement at the impending arrival of Lionel Messi to his MLS team, by painting a huge mural of the soccer star on the side of a building in Miami. The mural was captured on camera by Beckham’s wife, Victoria, who shared the footage on her Instagram account, praising her husband’s artistic abilities. Messi is due to arrive in Miami on Tuesday to complete his highly anticipated move to the Major League Soccer team. His contract, which is believed to be worth between $50m-$60m per year, will be partially funded by adidas and Apple TV, who will share profits from shirts and TV subscriptions featuring Messi’s name, respectively.
Beckham, who co-owns the MLS team, has expressed his pride at the signing, saying that he has always been committed to bringing the best players to his team. He has also emphasized the importance of Messi’s arrival, as his team has not won a game in the last 10 MLS matches and is currently eight points outside the playoff places. Beckham has described Messi’s signing as a “massive moment” for the team.
Messi’s first game for the Miami team is scheduled to be on July 21, in the newly-formed Leagues Cup against Mexican team Cruz Azul. However, he is set to be unveiled at the team’s DRV PNL Stadium on July 16, alongside fellow new signing Sergio Busquets, whom Messi knows from their time together at Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Messi is currently on vacation in the Caribbean with his wife and three children. He shared a picture from his holiday on his social media account, simply captioned “vacay”. The soccer star is expected to be a major boost for the Miami team, both on and off the field, and his arrival has generated significant excitement among soccer fans in the United States and around the world.
