Jordan Henderson, the current captain of Liverpool, was reportedly considering joining Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia during the course of the previous twelve hours before deciding against the move.
Now that Al-Ettifaq has made a £700k per week offer, the on-again, off-again story of the day is back on again, according to credible sources. The 33-year-old is reportedly once again considering the move and may even be inclined to accept it.
Journalists with connections to the club, including as David Ornstein at The Athletic and Dominic King at The Mail, claim that the Gerrard-managed team has significantly increased their offer and is now prepared to pay more than quadruple Henderson’s salary.
Henderson’s offer has been referred to as “staggering” and “life-changing,” but it’s important to remember that he doesn’t come from a very poor background—his father is a retired police officer—and that he has been one of Liverpool’s highest-paid residents for at least ten years.
For practically any fan, and possibly even those players from underprivileged origins who could feel under some obligation to pass on generational wealth to their extended relatives, the sum on offer would be astonishing and perhaps life-changing.
Finding even that sliver of insight would be challenging for a player like Henderson. It’s tough to predict where we will be tomorrow, however, given how this story has changed throughout the course of the day.
Maybe he’ll accept the offer, changing from a footballer who is extraordinarily wealthy and whose children will never have to work a day in their lives to one who is even wealthier and whose children will never have to work a day in their lives.
Another possibility is that he won’t. Liverpool, on the other hand, is allegedly waiting for his response. If he chooses to proceed, they will start discussing a fee with Al-Ettifaq and may then turn their focus to acquiring Roméo Lavia.
