In order to persuade OGC Nice to sell Khephren Thuram, Liverpool will have to offer up to €50 million, however Jurgen Klopp will still be interested.
Foot Mercato claims that OGC Nice may ask for up to €50 million in order to sell Khephren Thuram. The 22-year-old midfield pro has drawn a lot of interest from Liverpool, but any transfer will be contingent on lower asking prices and players leaving the Merseyside club.
In preparation for the next season, Jurgen Klopp faces a significant conundrum with the shape of his midfielder. Despite the large number of departures during the offseason, the German manager has plenty of choices, but he might need further acquisitions.
During the offseason, Klopp was desperate to restructure his midfield, and the team made the right hires to suit his preferences. The spectacular move of Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig was followed by the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.
The pair will give their midfield a new dimension, but Klopp might have his eye on someone else. Liverpool is still interested in Romeo Lavia, but his enormous asking price has been difficult. The team currently has plenty of choices, like Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic, and Fabinho, but the Belgian is more of a holding player.
According to the news, their interest in Lavia caused them to give up on Khephren Thuram. But because the two players have different playing styles, Klopp might still be interested in the Frenchman. If that’s still the case, OGC Nice would ask for at least €50 million in exchange for the talented 22-year-old midfielder.
If Thuram’s contractual situation doesn’t change, Nice will sell him next summer even though they don’t want to in this window. Liverpool might want the player right away, but clubs could acquire him for less money than the asking price.
Thuram is a midfielder who plays on the right side, thus Klopp would want to add him. However, the club would have to sell some of its current midfielders in order to recruit the 22-year-old midfield star. Thiago and Jordan Henderson have been linked to transfers, although Klopp might not offload both players at once.
The second problem is the $50 million asking price, as Liverpool would like Nice to lower it. The Reds, who had conducted serious discussions for the 22-year-old with their French counterpart, may succeed with prolonged negotiations.
There is also the player’s desire, who might have been swayed by Liverpool’s interest. The Merseysiders’ current status as the only English team with a genuine interest in Thuram may work to their advantage as they bargain with Nice over the purchase price.
