Jordan Henderson, the captain of Liverpool, is leaning toward accepting a contract from Al Ettifaq of the Saudi Pro League.
Henderson is anticipated to decide soon after carefully weighing the life-altering offer that would treble his Liverpool pay. Henderson is an England international.
Former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard, who was chosen last week to lead Al Ettifaq, has been a major factor in the club’s pursuit of the 33-year-old.
Henderson’s four-year deal, which he signed in the summer of 2021, has two more years left, therefore Liverpool and Al Ettifaq would need to come to an agreement on a transfer fee before the midfielder could join the Saudi team.
Liverpool hasn’t heard from any clubs about moving for Henderson. The clubs will start contract negotiations right away if he approves the action.
Henderson has been a leader for Liverpool and England off the field as well. He is one of the players who has spoken out the loudest in support of the LGBTQI+ community and its supporters. However, homosexuality is prohibited in Saudi Arabia.
After Gerrard left Liverpool in 2015, Henderson, who had previously played for Sunderland, was chosen as the team’s captain. Since his arrival, he has made 492 appearances in all competitions and has been a mainstay in the Liverpool lineup.
For Liverpool past season, Henderson played 43 times, starting 23 games in the Premier League as Jurgen Klopp’s team finished fifth.
