Mohamed Salah, a forward for Liverpool, has posted a lot of images of his preseason workouts ahead of the new season, including his excellent 7km time on the treadmill.
The Egyptian forward had only been on summer vacation for three weeks when he returned to work.
The 31-year-old demonstrated his core strength in an Instagram post by supporting his body weight with one arm on a balance ball and a dumbbell in the other, an exercise that is believed to increase flexibility and balance.
Salah released a video of himself using a reformer pilates machine two days later. The training regimen offers a full-body workout that can help build a strong core and tone a range of major muscle groups.
However, several Liverpool supporters voiced their worry over the apparatus, with one saying that he was “one wrong move away from a horrific injury.”
To increase his general fitness in preparation for the preseason, Salah has also been running on a treadmill. The forward for Liverpool actually ran 7.1 kilometers in 29 minutes, 46 seconds.
He ran at a pace of three minutes and 55 seconds per km, as seen in the screenshot below.
To put those numbers into perspective, consider that the fastest speed for a 5 km run is 12:35.3 established by Ugandan runner Joshua Cheptegei, who also set the fastest time for a 10 km run of 26:11.00.
Alongside new additions Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai for Liverpool’s first day of preseason on Monday, Salah also made a trip back to Melwood.
After the Reds could only secure a spot in the Europa League, he will be looking to guide Jurgen Klopp’s team to a top-four finish in the upcoming months.
Salah posted on Twitter that he was “totally devastated” at missing out on playing in the Champions League. There is no justification at all for this. We had everything we had to qualify for the Champions League the next year, but we fell short.
“We are Liverpool, and entering the competition is the very least we can do. Sorry, but it’s too soon for a motivational or upbeat post. We failed both you and ourselves.
Liverpool will play two preseason games in Germany before to the start of the Premier League season, followed by a brief trip of Singapore that starts at the end of July.
