Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford is expected to sign a five-year contract deal, making him one of the highest-paid English players

Manchester United and Marcus Rashford have agreed to a new five-year contract extension worth £78 million.

Rashford has agreed to a £300,000-per-week contract extension until 2028 and is expected to sign it this week.

United will be delighted to secure Rashford’s future after signing Mason Mount from Chelsea and goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

It follows more than a year of negotiations between Rashford’s agent, Dwaine Maynard, and Paris Saint-Germain.

The 25-year-old is in the final year of his current £250,000-per-week contract and would have been a free agent next summer if he had not signed a new deal.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is likely to sign a lucrative new five-year contract with Marcus Rashford.

Rashford, on the other hand, has always desired to stay with his hometown club, and his new contract will keep him at Old Trafford until he is in his 30s.

Rashford will remain one of the highest-paid English players, with only Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling expected to earn more.

It’s a reward for Rashford’s most successful season to date. He overcame a disappointing 2021-22 season to become the first United player to reach 30 goals since Robin van Persie a decade ago.

Rashford barely reported for pre-season training with the rest of United’s international players on Sunday, so he will miss Wednesday night’s friendly against Lyon at Murrayfield, following his absence from last week’s triumph against Leeds in Oslo.

United are nearing an agreement with goalkeeper Andre Onana to replace David de Gea.

Erik ten Hag and his team will fly to the United States following the Lyon game, and Onana is set to accompany them after United agreed to a £43 million agreement with Inter to recruit him as David de Gea’s replacement.

Onana was at Inter’s training facility in Italy on Monday, but he plans to fly to Manchester on Tuesday for a medical and to sign a five-year contract.

The team has already began processing the Cameroonian’s visa so that he can participate in the four-match tour of the United States.

United will face Arsenal in New Jersey on Saturday, followed by Real Madrid in Houston and Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas, and a youth team will face Wrexham in San Diego.
