Despite not scoring, midfielder Alexis Mac Allister assisted in the new team’s formal debut.
1. Darwin Nunez fired with rapid speed
Last summer, when Darwin Nunez joined Liverpool for a cost of up to 100 million euros, all eyes were on him. This player did not see much action in his first season with The Kop.
However, the Uruguayan striker got the new season off to a good start with a score in the third minute. It’s a nice start for Liverpool fans hoping for better things for Nunez this season.
2. Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘carries’ the midfield
Before the game, all eyes were on Liverpool’s midfield, owing to Jurgen Klopp’s fresh additions. However, Alexander-Arnold was the most impressive in the end.
Liverpool’s midfield was devoid of both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho. They will most likely have to adjust to this absence next season.
Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold had 64 touches, 93% passing accuracy, and only 7 turnovers. He does, however, have 7/9 lengthy passes to the correct address.
In addition to Alexander-Arnold’s brilliance, coach Jurgen Klopp produced a highlight by allowing right-back Conor Bradley to play in central midfield. Obviously, Liverpool’s approach does not rely on a single player, and Klopp is always looking for fresh tricks.
3. Lars Stindl, the longer ginger, the older it is
Lars Stindl, 34, returned to his boyhood club Karlsruher this summer after 13 years playing at clubs such as Hannover and Borussia Moenchengladbach.
He is a hero for his Bundesliga 2 club Karlsruher, and nothing beats coming on the pitch and scoring against a club like Liverpool. In the 39th minute, Stindl’s volley was just unstoppable.
4. World Cup champion demonstrates class
Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, both rookies, were debuted in the match against Karlsruher. In the second half, the Hungarian appeared to be fairly active, while Mac Allister coordinated effectively with the young players.
He even made a mark on the first day, assisting Diogo Jota in the waning minutes of the game.
The Mirror, on the other hand, felt that the Liverpool midfield still required more recruits, and that Klopp needed to do so swiftly.
5. Ben Doak dazzles
When Klopp brought Ben Doak onto the field last season, he impressed Liverpool fans. Doak returned to the first team this time and continued to demonstrate his remarkable potential.
On the right wing, he possesses very quick dribbling and demonstrates that his skill in one-on-one scenarios is his strongest suit.
Doak, along with the rookies brought in by the German strategist, will be one of Liverpool’s players to monitor in the coming weeks.
