Naby Keita will allegedly depart Liverpool at the conclusion of the current season, when his contract with the club expires.
According to Fabrizio Romano, when Keita’s contract expires this summer, the 28-year-old will follow Roberto Firmino out of Anfield, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to make a similar decision at the conclusion of this season.
With James Milner’s contract also ending, as many as four Liverpool players might leave the club this summer, but Keita’s exit may be the easiest to accommodate in the transfer window due to the midfielder’s injury history.
The former RB Leipzig star’s tenure on Merseyside has been marred by injuries, and while there have been bright moments, many Liverpool fans will likely be relieved to see Keita depart Anfield for a new chapter in his career, despite how much the club spent to get the Guinean.
True, Keita remains one of Liverpool’s most costly purchases, but even with the midfielder now likely to go for nothing, many fans will agree that a fast exit from Anfield, alongside Firmino and Oxlade-Chamberlain, will be for the best.
Keita is correct to leave Liverpool to advance his career.
Many trophies were won by Keita during his time at Liverpool, but few would consider the 28-year-time old’s at Anfield a success. Injuries and a lack of form contributed to Keita’s ɗisastrous five years in the Premier League.
Although it may seem unfair to let Keita to leave at this stage of his career, allowing the midfielder to leave will be beneficial for all parties, as Liverpool will be able to save some money on the wage bill and bring in a number eight who can elevate the team in the coming years.
