MU has officially confirmed that Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been appointed as the new captain of the Manchester Red Devils, replacing Harry Maguire, who was stripped of the captaincy a week ago. So, why does Bruno deserve this responsibility?
Used to wear the captain’s armband
In fact, the Portuguese midfielder has worn the MU captain’s armband since last season, when Maguire was on the bench. During the whole previous season, Bruno played for the Old Trafford team 45 times. In the Premier League alone, this number is 37 games, while former captain Maguire has only 9 times.
After the official decision, coach Ten Hag informed the MU players about this decision in an internal meeting at the club’s Delta Marriott hotel in New Jersey (USA).
Coach Ten Hag believes in Bruno’s leadership qualities
The choice of the Dutch military leader is not surprising. Because during the last season, Ten Hag has always believed in Bruno’s leadership qualities and the influence of this player’s play. He once emphasized that, with or without the captain’s armband, Bruno has proven himself to be an excellent leader since joining The Theatre of Dreams.
The Portuguese player has always been seen as an inspiration to his teammates both on and off the pitch or in the dressing room. Twice elected as MU’s Player of the Year, Bruno deserves a new role and responsibility after scoring 64 goals and making 54 assists/185 matches for the Red Devils of Manchester.
Bruno is the best fit
MU legends have criticized him as just a boy who is not old enough, not mature enough to play the role of a conductor. But ignoring a few unfortunate ripples, Bruno absolutely deserves to wear the most MU captain’s armband at the moment.
The Portuguese midfielder always shows fighting spirit, giving his best and being ready to sweat, blood, and tears for MU. Moreover, Ten Hag could hardly trust anyone else when he had to compare his chopsticks to choose a flagpole.
Technically, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Antony, and especially Raphael Varane can take on the role of MU leader at this time. All three players mentioned above have important voices in the dressing room.
However, with his impressive English ability, deep understanding of the club, his thirst for victory, inspirational qualities, his passion on the field for his teammates, and experience of wearing the MU captain’s armband from last season, Bruno is clearly the most appropriate choice in the current context.
