‘85% pass completion, 55% duels combined’ – PL ‘jewel’ confident he is necessary addition to Klopp’s midfield

Due to the impending exits of both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho this summer, Liverpool have had to rethink their transfer plan, and now a new update on a likely target, Boubacar Kamara, has emerged.

Liverpool are interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara, according to The Athletic’s Andy Jones.

According to a report written for the journal, Liverpool are now looking short on experience and depth in their deep-lying midfield areas, forcing Jurgen Klopp to discover prospective replacements for both Henderson and Fabinho ahead of next season.

Despite Liverpool previously being linked with his teammate Douglas Luiz, it is said that Kamara is one of the players on the Merseyside club’s radar.

Although no fee has been proposed, Football Transfers values him at £38 million.

How talented is Boubacar Kamara?

While Dominik Szoboszlai is an exception, it is evident that Klopp wants to rebuild his midfield with Premier League-proven players who have the experience to improve their performances in the top level next season.

Following the arrival of Alexis MacAllister from Brighton and Hove Albion, the Reds have been heavily linked with his teammate Moises Caicedo, Crystal Palace star Cheick Doucoure, and Southampton youngster Romeo Lavia, all of whom have been standout performers for their respective clubs in English football.

As a result, Liverpool’s interest in Kamara makes perfect sense, and if the Reds can strike a solid deal to recruit the excellent midfielder, it would be a fantastic way to bolster the deeper duties in the center of the pitch while also acquiring the services of a worthy Fabinho successor.

Since joining Villa Park on a free transfer from Marseille last summer, the 23-year-old Frenchman has been dubbed a “jewel” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig.

Over 24 Premier League appearances, the Villa ace completed 85% of his passes, registered one assist, completed 57% of his dribbles, and won the majority of his aerial and ground duels (55%), demonstrating that he is a solid and reliable defensive presence in the center of the pitch.

During his brief stint in the Premier League, the Villa midfield shield has received great accolades, with Claret and Blue podcaster Dan Rolinson declaring that Kamara was the club’s best midfielder last season:

“I believe Kamara is by far our best midfielder at the club right now.” I don’t think there’s anyone else in the midfield who can compete with him.”

When comparing Kamara’s output to Fabinho’s last season, the Villa midfielder came close in a number of key attributes such as pass completion rate (84.8% v 88.3%), percentage of dribblers tackled (48.2% v 38.7%), successful take-ons (45.7% v 46.7%), and aerial duels won (56.4% v 58.8%), according to FBref.

That being said, if Villa are willing to part ways with their asset this summer, Kamara might be a truly exciting option for Liverpool, providing the squad with a like-for-like replacement who has the experience needed to make an immediate impact at Anfield.
