Dominik Szoboszlai was not seen at Liverpool’s training session in Germany on Saturday (July 22) after seeming to roll his ankle.
According to the Liverpool Echo, he is expected to be sidelined for a few days to avoid a major injury. As a result, he is a major doubt for our friendly against Greuther Furth on Monday (July 24).
Liverpool will play friendlies against Leicester City and Bayern Munich in Singapore next. The pre-season will end with a match against SV Darmstadt at Preston’s Deepdale Stadium.
RB Leipzig signed Szoboszlai this summer for a cost of £60 million. After the departures of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner, Jurgen Klopp sees him as a starting midfielder.
Why be concerned?
It is usual for players to sustain minor injuries from time to time. And, because it’s pre-season, the club will always play it safe and take no chances with one of its best players.
According to writer Bence Bocsak, the Hungary international has only missed one game in the last two years. Given our history of injuries, especially with our former No. 8, Liverpool fans are supposed to be concerned when a new player is injured.
But there doesn’t appear to be anything problematic here. Szoboszlai should be able to participate in at least a couple of pre-season games (hopefully) and in our Premier League opener against Chelsea next month.
