Joao Palhinha, a Liverpool and West Ham target, has experienced an injury scare that could derail a £50 million deal.
The Reds have targeted the Fulham midfielder to replace the departing Fabinho, while West Ham are looking to replace new Arsenal player Declan Rice. Fulham are said to be holding out for £60 million for the former Sporting Libson star, but he may have to wait after injuring himself during a friendly against Brentford in Philadelphia, which the Cottagers won 3-2.
Palhinha crashed awkwardly on his shoulder and required extensive medical treatment. He walked off the field with his left arm in a sling, apologizing to fans and caressing the club crest. Marco Silva’s decision to stay could have an impact on his future.
After rejecting a £40 million bid from Saudi club Al-Ahli, the Portuguese manager has declared himself “100%” dedicated to Fulham. Silva acknowledged receiving the rich offer last week, but has remained committed to the London club because he believes the Premier League is the best in the world.
Al-Ahli have already acquired ex-Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino and former Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, and are on the verge of announcing Allan Saint-Maximin’s £30 million transfer from Newcastle. Meanwhile, Fulham are closing in on Wolves striker Raul Jimenez for £5.5 million after Silva received market support following his declaration that he only has “13-14 senior players.”
Despite being offered a £20 million-a-year contract, Silva will remain at Fulham. “My commitment to this club has been 100 percent since the first day I signed, and it will continue to be that way,” he stated. Offers are a normal element of doing business. I’ve had a fantastic two years at Fulham.
“It’s up to us to respect the club where we work, which is something I’ve always done throughout my career.”I made a decision, spoke with the club, and am once again fully dedicated to the club.”
Silva could lose top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic, who wants to leave for Al-Ahli for £40 million. “Some rumours have not come out,” the Cottagers manager remarked. As a manager, I have no control over it. I spoke with Mitro, and I am here to do my best for my guys and protect them, even if they have individual decisions to make.
“I’d like to have more than just Mitro.” I’m thinking about more than just the one player mentioned. Last season, we lost seven players. Fortunately, the main ones are still present. We need to prepare for a Premier League season, and we haven’t signed even one player to make the fans happy.”
