Man United unveiled their new away kit for the 2023-24 season, which has a green-striped pattern inspired by their past… as Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and others model the eye-catching jersey

Manchester United’s gaudy new away kit for the 2023-24 season has been formally unveiled, with adidas designing a contentious green-striped design.

The sportswear behemoth claims the eye-catching strip was put together to honor United’s “storied past” while still embracing a “fresh, modern look.”

Its vertical stripes harken back to the club’s early days, with the pattern last seen two decades ago, and the kit has also been inspired by the city.

At the turn of the century, United’s alternate stripes frequently featured multicolored stripes, with green and gold and blue and white being prominent.

And the green has now made a surprising comeback for Erik ten Hag’s second season in command, bringing a new spin on an Old Trafford classic.

The striking green-striped design is inspired by the club’s history and the city’s architecture

Between the green blocks, maroon-red lines separate white stripes, reminiscent of Manchester’s unique red bricks and architecture, according to adidas.

The dark green foundation is claimed to depict the spreading city’s urban landscape, and the design is finished by a crew-neck collar.

Furthermore, the shirt is made entirely of recycled materials.

The on-field version of the jersey has HEAT.RDY technology, which will allow United’s players to stay cool during games on numerous fronts next season.

The alternative kit for fans employs AEROREADY, a similar technology meant to keep the body dry and comfortable.

The design was inspired by a number of Manchester United players, including Marcus Rashford, captain Bruno Fernandes, and Casemiro.

Lisandro Martinez was one of the athletes that modeled the strip before its official publication.

United will debut the away kit against Wrexham on July 25 as part of their tour of the United States, however fringe names are expected to appear.

The kit is available for purchase at United’s club stores as well as certain adidas retailers.

‘We’re really delighted to return to a design that is vital to the tradition of this great club,’ said an adidas spokeswoman.

‘Vertical stripes are in the DNA of Manchester United, and we hope this bold new look captures the imaginations of fans as they travel the globe supporting the team.

‘We have intentionally taken cues from the city itself, to provide both the players and travelling fans with a piece of home, wherever they are wearing it.’
