Cristiano Ronaldo makes offer to buy Portuguese newspaper he has ‘sued’ several times

Although it seems like there isn’t a day that goes by without current Saudi Pro League star Cristiano Ronaldo being spotted on a luxury yacht somewhere in the world with partner Georgina Rodrguez and their children, the Portuguese icon rarely gets much down time even when on vacation, whether it’s to maintain his physical fitness or work on his latest business venture.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s most recent commercial venture

According to the Spanish daily El Pas, he has made a bid to buy the Cofina media conglomerate, which owns a number of newspapers and publications in his home country, as well as the Correio da Manh TV channel.

This includes a newspaper called Correio da Manh, which Ronaldo has refused to speak with and has even taken to court on several occasions because of rumors it has circulated about him over the years. Being the owner, along with 10 other possible shareholders, would be a straightforward solution to that problem.

Correio da Manh: Portugal’s most popular newspaper

Although there are other offers for Cofina, Ronaldo could be on his way to taking over Portugal’s most widely circulated daily newspaper, which has caused him a lot of trouble in the past. During the European Championships in France in 2016, the former Real Madrid star threw a microphone belonging to a journalist from Correio da Manh TV into a lake after an ill-advised question.

Conflicts between Ronaldo and Correio da Manh

Other controversies have centered on stories about Ronaldo allegedly renovating his luxury house in Lisbon without the city council’s approval, an interview published with his eldest son’s former nanny after she was fired, and a piece claiming he was forced to pay compensation for harassing a minor on social media.

According to Correio da Manh, Real Madrid had instructed the striker to sign a confidentiality agreement with Kathryn Mayorga, the model who had accused him of sexual assault in Las Vegas, and that his mother, Dolores Aveiro, had used witchcraft rituals to cause a schism between her son and Rodrguez.

Ronaldo has recently refused to answer questions from Cofina group reporters at press appearances and has launched legal action against them to protect his right to privacy. The corporation is worth €75 million (about $83 million).
