Lionel Messi was accompanied by three of his sons: Thiago, Mateo, and Ciro. They wanted to be there for his farewell game with the French national team.
Negotiations to extend the Argentine star’s contract with the famed French club fell down, and both sides confirmed the end of their professional partnership on Saturday.
Messi’s sons bid him farewell just as the children were about to leave the pitch to make room for the start of the game, but Thiago, who was seen on camera, waited until the last moment to say to his father, “Good luck.”
Messi’s formal offer from Inter Miami
After receiving a formal offer from MLS side Inter Miami, Messi may have had a better notion about his next team.
According to MARCA, the offer would contain a three-season deal in exchange for a considerable money, however it falls short of the 400 million dollars per year proposed by Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.
Nonetheless, Messi would become the highest-paid player in MLS, which enables each team to have three franchise players making more than $1 million per year.
This was Messi’s second formal offer, after one from Al Hilal, with Barcelona also submitting a proposal.
Although the Barcelona board will have to achieve certain financial requirements in order to finance Messi, the club does have an emotional connection with the player.
