Austrian midfielder Marcel Sabitzer has officially parted ways with Bayern Munich to join Dortmund and may soon face the “old man” MU with the new team in the US.
“Dortmund has strengthened the midfield with dream rookie Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich. The 29-year-old player, vice-captain of the Austrian national team has officially signed a contract with a term until June 30, 2027,” Dortmund officially announced the successful recruitment of Marcel Sabitzer.
Sabitzer promises to be a quality addition to Dortmund to replace Jude Bellingham, who recently moved to Real Madrid. According to reputable sources, Dortmund had to spend €20m, including surcharges, to convince Bayern Munich to sell Sabitzer. 2 years ago, the Gray Lobster bought the Austrian midfielder from RB Leipzig for €16m, so basically, they can be satisfied when they have just pushed away a name that was out of the plan, and a little profit on the transfer fee.
“I can’t wait to join my new teammates and put on the Dortmund jersey. Negotiations with the coach as well as the team leadership show that they are really ambitious. Personally, I will do what is best to help the club achieve its goals,” Sabitzer shared.
Also according to the announcement from Dortmund, Sabitzer will immediately depart for the US with sporting director Sebastian Kehl. Most likely, the 29-year-old star will make his debut Die Borussen in a friendly match on July 31. If that happens, it will be a very interesting reunion.
In the second half of the 2022/23 season, Sabitzer played for MU on loan from Bayern Munich. The Austrian player did not play badly, at least as a backup central midfielder.
