Boot customization is one of the few ways for a player to express themselves on the field. With signature editions reserved for the ultimate elite of a brand, a customized custom job is the next best alternative. Jordan Dawson, who has designed custom boots for Declan Rice, Son Heung-Min, and Marcus Rashford, as well as other work for players such as Usain Bolt and Anthony Joshua, has carved himself a place in this industry.
To start with, can you tell us a bit about how you got into this line of work?
I first began customizing footwear for companies like Nike, Converse, and PUMA. EA Sports then invited me to customize adidas sneakers at their FIFA 20 Launch Party, where I collaborated with Kaká, Ian Wright, and Hudson-Odoi. Declan Rice, whom I approached at the event, was my first client for football footwear. I discussed making a pair for him, and once delivered, he publicized them on his social media, and the rest is history.
How does an opportunity such as this current one for Darwin Nunez come about?
Much of my work now comes from word of mouth, but this pair for Darwin Nunez came via RareBoots4U. Cam and I had discussed working together for a time, and when I built a pair for Heung-Min Son, this opportunity with Darwin arose since he was interested in a set for himself.
