During the match, Chelsea fans in the stands at Stamford Bridge constantly mocked Liverpool by recalling the Hillsborough d/i/s/a/s/t/e/r that took place in April 1989, which killed many “Red Brigade” fans.
“Always the victim”, and “The killers” were the words that rang out from the stands of the host fans.
After the match, Chelsea had to post a notice apologizing to Liverpool: “We would like to apologize to anyone who was offended. Chelsea strongly condemns the inappropriate behavior of the fans. Disparagement and hatred have no place in football”.
On the Liverpool side, the Merseyside team also spoke out to ask Chelsea fans to stop their thoughtless actions: “This must end for those who have been and are suffering the consequences of the tragedy.”
Soon after, the Premier League organizers announced that they would investigate and hold the extremists accountable: “This will be our priority work shortly.”
A similar incident also happened in the match between Liverpool and Man City at the Etihad a few days ago. “Cityzens” fans also sang similar lines to Chelsea fans, forcing the Premier League champions to post a public apology.
Back at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea, and Liverpool drew 0-0 in both the first leg and second leg this season and had a 4th consecutive draw in the Premier League. Chelsea squandered the opportunity and then joined Liverpool to hold each other in the middle of the rankings. Liverpool is 8th while Chelsea is 11th.
Alisson and Henderson almost ‘ҺᎥт’ each other on the field
The incident took place in the 77th minute when Henderson had heavy words with Alisson. However, instead of resignedly listening to the captain’s midfielder yelling, the Brazilian player was “ᵴuгргιᵴeԀ”, leading to both sides shouting. Henderson and Alisson even “f𝔦ɡҺт” and quarrel with each other. The incident only subsided when other Liverpool players ran to intervene.
Witnessing the incident, a large number of Liverpool fans sided with Alisson and expressed their displeasure at Henderson’s “marketplace” behavior. Many people even called for coach Jurgen Klopp to take off Henderson of the captaincy – the 32-year-old midfielder is in quite bad form this season.
“Take off Henderson’s captaincy. He’s out of time,” An angry fan commented. Another fan expressed disappointment: “The team is too unconnected. The team needs a r/e/a/l leader. Please give the captaincy to someone else”. The third added: “I’d be willing to give up the top four if it meant Liverpool losing Henderson. I’m completely serious.”
The incident between Henderson and Alisson once again exposed the t/r/u/t/h about disunity within Liverpool. In the past, such things rarely happened at The Reds. But over time, that all changed.
The lackluster 0-0 draw against Chelsea made Liverpool fall to 8th place with 43 points, 7 points behind the Champions League group next season. With this situation, the goal of participating in the highest playing field in Europe in the 2023/24 season of Jurgen Klopp’s teachers and students is becoming more and more distant.
Those who keep the formula to watch this match probably feel “wasted”, by the performance of the boring football of the two teams. Notably, this is the fourth time in a row that neither Chelsea nor Liverpool has found each other’s net, since a d/r/a/m/a/t/i/c 2-2 draw in January 2022.
Both the League Cup and FA Cup finals between Chelsea and Liverpool last season were deadlocked. In those two matches, Liverpool defeated Chelsea after the penalty shootout to win the championship.
In total, four 0-0 draws between Chelsea and Liverpool saw fans go through 420 minutes without a goal, instead of just 360 minutes (the two League Cup and FA Cup finals both lasted 30 minutes longer extra time) – the longest number in English football history.
