Liverpool are rebuilding their team following a disappointing season, and while the emphasis is on the midfield, Juventus’ Federico Chiesa is still a goal to improve the attacking ranks.
This follows Calciomercato’s report that the Old Lady regards the Italy international as expendable and will consider his departure from Turin if their €70 million (£60 million) valuation is satisfied.
Several teams, including Liverpool, have made inquiries this year but have yet to make a formal offer. Given the Reds’ spending and emphasis on midfield and defense, a move for the 25-year-old is likely only if Juventus is willing to sell for a lower amount.
Despite this, prior reports confirming Jurgen Klopp’s desire to see Chiesa at Anfield imply that there is genuine interest, and it is possible that conversations will heat up before the summer window closes.
If Klopp decides to give the go-ahead and the rumors around Chiesa become more concrete, Liverpool’s offensive force would be complete with a dynamic and combative new winger.
The 42-cap ace suffered an ACL injury in January 2022, delaying his progress with Juventus. While the 22/23 season was marred by his fitness issues, the 41-cap gem began to return to form in the final weeks of the Serie A season, claiming four direct contributions across the final five matches.
Chiesa, dubbed a “wizard” by Liverpool reporter DaveOCKOP, ranks among the top 4% of attacking midfielders and wingers in Europe’s top five leagues for assists, the top 15% for progressive carries, the top 16% for successful take-ons, and the top 13% for tackles per 90 minutes, according to FBref, demonstrating his prowess and energy as a driving force on the wing.
The £153k-per-week jewel would be supported by the talents of Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is regarded as one of the game’s most creative and naturally skilled pass masters, having been dubbed “sensational” by analyst Martin Tyler.
The 24-year-old ranks among the top 8% of full-backs in assists, top 4% in shot-creating actions, and top 2% in passes attempted and progressive passes per 90, highlighting his ball-playing abilities that could compliment Chiesa’s forward-surging approach.
It could be a “devastating” combination, as Juventus star Chiesa has been described by Paolo Di Canio, with Chiesa’s 22 goals and 20 assists with Juventus confirming that he possesses the varied approach to open up several dimensions to the attack, thus adding to the overall flow of Klopp’s side as they look to rekindle the intensity that was essential to their illustrious success in recent years.
Chiesa, dubbed a “diamond” by U23 scout Antonio Mango, would gleam at Anfield and could wreak havoc in and around the danger zone with a first-rate star like Alexander-Arnold orchestrating the play, and Liverpool’s attack could cement itself at the forefront of European football for years to come.
While there may be stiff competition for the former Fiorentina man’s signing, Klopp would be wise to beat the competition.
