Not only Man Utd, Man City now keen on ‘the master volley defender’, ready to all-in

According to гᴜмогs, Manchester City has ‘expressed an interest’ in Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard due to doubts over the right long-term back’s future.

Pavard’s future at Bayern has recently been questioned, with the 27-year-old poised to reach the last year of his current deal this summer. Thomas Tuchel’s team has sought to restart negotiations, but efforts have been greeted with reluctance as the player weighs his options after the season.

The Frenchman acknowledged this week that there are ‘currently no conversations with the club’ as he concentrates on his football, and 90min says that City is one of three of Europe’s best clubs – along with Manchester United and Real Madrid – who have requested to be kept updated on any choices.

Pep Guardiola’s side presently has Joao Cancelo on loan at Bayern Munich and has been in constant touch with the Bavarian club over their player’s future. The opportunity for them to make the loan permanent underlines City’s readiness to sell this summer, with full-back an area where the Etihad needs to spend.

According to Foot Mercato, City are interested in Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy.

Guardiola is anticipated to prioritize both full-back positions this summer, thus the interest in Pavard, with Cancelo set to be sold and no natural left-back in the first-team squad – although Nathan Ake has done well.

Mendy had been a regular for Madrid previous to the World Cup, but an injury in a game against Atletico Madrid at the end of January sidelined him for about two months. The French international came off the bench for just 29 minutes against Barcelona before suffering another injury that has kept him out of action.

The 27-year-recent old’s string of ailments is believed to have troubled those in power at the Bernabeu, with the 27-year-old may be permitted to go this summer despite being under contract until 2025. Newcastle and Paris Saint-Germain have previously been connected with the defender, so City’s desire is likely to be met with opposition.

Bayern returns Cancelo to Man City

According to to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich certainly does not activate the clause to buy Joao Cancelo from Manchester City for 70 million euros after the 2022/23 season ends.

Shortly, the Allianz Arena club will talk with the new captain Thomas Tuchel about Cancelo. If the German military leader wants to have the 1994 defender in the squad, then Bayern will resume negotiations with Man City.

The Bayern leadership is said to be dissatisfied with Cancelo, both in terms of expertise and attitude. The former Inter player had difficulty integrating with his teammates at the Allianz Arena and often expressed his attitude when he was not in the main game. Videos circulating on social media show Cancelo often isolated during training sessions of the Bavarian team.

In the first match under coach Tuchel, Cancelo was only used for 12 minutes when facing Dortmund.

Cancelo left Man City in the early 2023 transfer window due to a c/o/n/f/l/i/c/t with coach Pep Guardiola. The 28-year-old star was dissatisfied with not being able to play in important matches and was immediately removed from the plan at the Etihad Stadium.

When he arrived at Bayern, Cancelo continued to be suspected of being among a group of players dissatisfied with coach Julian Nagelsmann, alongside Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala, and Sadio Mane.
