Tom Brady announced his retirement (for the second time). This time, the seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback assures us that it is permanent. Tom Brady’s seven Super Bowl victories (six with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) have solidified his legacy as the greatest quarterback of all time.
In celebration of Brady’s retirement, we wanted to take a look at some of the watches he wore throughout his career, which included Audemars Piguets, Tag Heuers, and a slew of IWCs.
AUDEMARS PIGUET ROYAL OAK RUBBER CLAD TOM BRADY
It was far more difficult to discover photographs of Tom Brady’s wristwear earlier in his career. He did, however, appear to have a penchant for Audemars Piguet. Brady was photographed sporting a rose gold Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Rubber Clad shortly after winning Super Bowl XXVI (36) in 2002, his first Super Bowl victory.
TAG HEUER CARRERA LIMITED EDITION BY TOM BRADY
Brady joined Tag Heuer as a brand ambassador in 2015. During this time, Brady was photographed wearing a variety of Tag Heuer watches, but he seemed to have a preference for the Carrera, namely the Limited Edition Tom Brady Carrera Ref. CAR201R.FT6120.
TIMEZONER TOM BRADY’S IWC PILOT’S WATCH “THE LONGEST FLIGHT”
Brady joined IWC after his collaboration with Tag Heuer terminated in 2019. Brady has frequently been spotted sporting several IWC models since then. Tom, for example, was photographed wearing an IWC Pilot’s Watch Timezoner “The Longest Flight” while signing his contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I suppose it was a wise decision given that Brady won his seventh Super Bowl in his first year with the Bucs.
TOP GUN CHRONOGRAPH OF TOM BRADY
Brady has proven to prefer the sportier models since joining IWC. This makes sense given that he is a professional athlete who is frequently spotted wearing watches on the golf course. The Top Gun Chronograph Ref. IW389101 is one of the more conventional IWC Pilot Watches Brady has been photographed wearing. This piece is a little large (it measures 44.5 mm in diameter) and has a black ceramic case. The caseback also has a lovely inscription that reads “TOP GUN – United States Navy Fighter Weapons School.” Overall, the Top Gun Chronograph is a traditional IWC pilot watch. The Patriots’ Super Bowl LI (51) victory over Atlanta in 2017 was one of the most entertaining football games ever played. Brady rallied the Patriots from a 28-3 hole in the third quarter to defeat the Atlanta Falcons in overtime. As a lifelong Patriots fan, this is one of the best football games I’ve ever seen. To mark the occasion, Johann Rupert, Chairman of Richement (the owner of IWC), presented Brady with a gold Limited Edition Piece Unique (1 of 1) timepiece. This IWC Big Pilot Ref. IW500922 has a rose gold case and dial. Only a few photographs of this watch have been published, and no price can be given due to its scarcity.
“LAKE TAHOE” IS TOM BRADY’S IWC TOP GUN CHRONOGRAPH.
One watch we’ve seen Brady wear in promotional photos but not in person is one of our favorite new IWC arrivals. While the IWC Top Gun Chronograph “Lake Tahoe” Ref. IW389105 has a pretty standard chronograph dial, the white ceramic case and matching white rubber strap elevate this timepiece. We don’t see many brands attempting to house their timepieces in white ceramic casings, so we applaud IWC for taking the risk. While the Top Gun Lake Tahoe is not a limited edition watch, the firm has pledged an annual production restriction of only 1,000 pieces, making it difficult to obtain. The IWC Top Gun Chronograph “Lake Tahoe” costs $10,700 USD.
TOP GUN MOJAVE DESERT TOM BRADY’S IWC BIG PILOT PERPETUAL CALENDAR
Tom’s IWC Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar Mojave Desert Ref. IW503004 is one of our greatest favorites. Not only does this watch have a perpetual calendar complication (keeping track of time until 2099), but it also comes in a highly distinctive tan, desert-colored ceramic case. We at Wrist Enthusiast love IWC’s pilot watches, but we also appreciate the ceramic watches they’ve created. The IWC Top Gun “Lake Tahoe” chronograph with white ceramic case (seen above) is yet another ceramic IWC we adore. The price of the IWC Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar Top Gun Mojave Desert is $40,000 USD.
IWC PORTUGIESER TOURBILLON HAND WOUND SQUELETTE BY TOM BRADY
Tom Brady hasn’t only recently made headlines due to his retirement. Brady was also featured in the new film 80 For Brady. Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field star as four longtime friends and Patriots fans who fly to Houston to see their hero Tom Brady play in Super Bowl LI (the historic comeback in which the Patriots defeated the Falcons). Brady also appears in the film as himself. Brady arrived on January 31, 2023, sporting the very unique IWC Portugieser Tourbillon Hand Wound Squelette Ref. IW546201. This limited edition sculpture was created in 2011 and was limited to only 25 pieces. Given Brady’s affinity for the brand, it stands to reason that he would own one and wear it to such an important event. This item is worth more than $100,000 USD on the secondary market.
