Man Utd wants to recruit two more ‘crown jewel’ in the defense

According to the British press, MU wants to strengthen the defense by bringing in two more young central defenders in the summer of 2023.

Not long ago, MU signed a short-term contract with midfielder Jonny Evans – an “old man” of the club. However, that is not enough for coach Erik ten Hag to feel secure for a long season, especially after MU lost to Dortmund 2-3 in the last friendly match because of a series of mistakes in the downline.

Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite are two names on MU’s radar, according to the Daily Mail. This newspaper claims Todibo’s rapid rise in Ligue 1 has attracted the attention of the Red Devils. Meanwhile, Branthwaite impressed MU’s scouting team when he wore PSV Eindhoven on loan last season.

Looking at MU’s squad at the moment, specifically the defense, only Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are capable of starting. Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof have all played badly against Dortmund, and Eric Bailly and Evans will most likely not be used by coach Ten Hag when the 2023/24 season begins.

Bailly spent last season playing at Marseille on loan, while Evans was there perhaps just to get enough numbers and help him maintain his fitness after leaving Leicester.

Todibo, 23 years old, was a former Barca star, had 2 seasons with the club. However, he only made a total of 5 appearances for the Catalunya team. Before being pushed to Nice, Todibo played for Schalke and Benfica on loan.

Meanwhile, Branthwaite, 21, joins Everton in 2020 from Carlisle United. Last season, the defender played for PSV on loan, made 36 appearances, contributed 4 goals.
