During Liverpool’s preseason loss to Bayern Munich yesterday, forward Luis Diaz scored an ‘amazing’ goal.
Diaz put Liverpool ahead 3-2 in the second half of Wednesday’s friendly, but Bayern rallied to win the game. That was unfortunate for the Colombian, whose goal was excellent enough to win any game.
Nonetheless, Liverpool Women’s striker Natasha Dowie praised Diaz’s strike and overall performance when covering the game for LFCTV.
“With the exception of the winner [from Bayern], this was my favorite goal.” “It was incredible,” the pundit added. “The switch of play, being able to play that half volley… But it’s his drive that I’m drawn to.
“He runs past two players and could easily go down, but he’s determined to score.” Many players would feel the contact and go down for a penalty there, but Diaz is different. His enthusiasm, his ambition, and you know he’ll give you his all every game.”
In Singapore, Diaz takes the show
After some doubts were expressed regarding his goal-scoring ability, it was nice to see Lucho score yesterday.
And what a way to go about it. Diaz ran 60 yards to make himself available for the one-two after starting the move with a superb flat, long-distance flick to Mohamed Salah.
Taking Mo’s pass into the area, he moved around the defender’s challenge and finished into the far corner.
It was the type of goal Sadio Mane would be proud of, and it proved that the Colombia international does have a clinical edge.
With Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez outscoring him in pre-season, and Cody Gakpo hitting the target early in the game, Diaz’s goal was significant.
It’s the kind of thing we’ll have to see more of from him this season if he wants to be a regular starter.
However, as Dowie points out, the £38 million signing from Porto appears to be as hungry and energetic as ever. Diaz was definitely motivated to make his imprint after being left out of the starting XI. He did, in the end, and what a manner to accomplish it.
