Carlo Ancelotti’s pre-season experiments with Real Madrid were fruitful on some occasions but disastrous on others. It is apparent that the management is still looking for the proper combination of players and personalities to improve on-field harmony.
The shift to a 4-4-2 diamond setup, on the other hand, appears to be very clear. Ancelotti used the same midfield-intensive formation against Juventus as he did in the Clasico last week, although in a losing cause.
The Italian tactician’s decision to stick with the formation demonstrates that he believes it is best suited to the players at his disposal. Needless to say, he has a few favorite prospects around whom he intends to construct his team.
According to writer Rodra, Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga are two such starlets who will be in the manager’s starting lineup for the upcoming season. They will be the team’s backbone.
A midfield-centered team
It is clear that Los Blancos’ transfer activity this summer leaves them with an abundance of riches in the final third but a rather depleted attack.
And Bellingham and Camavinga are poised to be the team’s backbone, not only because of their talent but also because of their versatility and attitude.
Ancelotti believes that the new acquisition, Bellingham, is the best candidate to start behind the two forwards on a regular basis. His duty as an attacking midfielder will be to organize play in the opponent’s box while also scoring goals.
Camavinga, on the other hand, will play deeper as an inside midfielder. He will almost certainly be joined by Federico Valverde or Luka Modric. Toni Kroos and Aurelien Tchouameni will battle it out for the pivot position.
As the 4-4-2 structure requires, the offense and defense will be heavily reliant on the four midfielders who serve as the formation’s heart and soul.
Needless to say, a lot will depend on the combinations Ancelotti selects from the talent pool in the middle of the park.
