The Dallas Cowboys track and record everything Cowboys-related, but not this one, possibly because it is too small. How tall is the Cowboys’ all-time shortest player? They are unsure. He hasn’t officially made the 53-man roster, but if he does, Christopher Vaughn II will be the Cowboys’ shortest player in franchise history. Chris Vaughn is better known as Deuce, or the young man who resembles Dak Prescott’s fifth-grade brother. (No, Dak is not his father). Vaughn, a rookie from Kansas State, was selected in the sixth round.
The 5-foot-5 Vaughn sprinting beneath the cleats of his teammates is one of the biggest highlights from the Cowboys’ training camp in Oxnard, Calif. so far. No, not literally. It appears to be so. Vaughn resembles Shaq to the 5-foot-9 KaVontae Turpin.
At least one of Vaughn’s former Kansas State colleagues believes that once you get beyond his height, he can play. Vaughn’s teammates, on the other hand, have all had to go through this learning process. Current Kansas State quarterback Will Howard was a freshman in the same class as Vaughn in 2020. They were a part of the 2020 COVID disaster. “I just remember the first time I met him; he wasn’t a super-high recruit,” Howard recalled. There was most likely no pun intended.
During Big 12 Media Days in Arlington last month, Howard discussed his former KSU teammate. “I remember the coaches saying, ‘Oh, this guy is going to be a stud,'” Howard recalled. “Then I recall meeting him and looking down to shake his hand. And I thought, ‘Man, this guy is little.'” Tiny is not cruel. Tiny is correct.
The average American male stands 5 feet 9 inches tall. The average NFL player stands 6 feet 2 inches tall. “I then observed him running routes.” “He ran some of the most incredible routes I’ve ever seen,” Howard remarked. “He was in and out of cuts like crazy.” He’s just as excellent, if not better, than a hand-off when catching passes out of the backfield.”
