Rio Ferdinand believes the 24-year-old star will be a ‘different player for Liverpool’ coming season.
Darwin Nunez of Liverpool did not have the best of seasons with the Reds last season. It was evident that he would need time to adjust to the league’s requirements, but even with that, he was often spotted in threatening positions and was a continuous threat for backlines, albeit not scoring as many goals as he would have liked.
The upcoming season, however, could be a watershed moment for Nunez. Rio Ferdinand, strangely, is one of his supporters who has cited the same. The former Manchester United defender highlighted parallels between Nunez and new United signing Rasmus Hojlund, claiming that the Danish international, like Nunez, may need time to adjust to life in the Premier League. Rio had the following to say via the ECHO:
“I’m thinking of Darwin Nunez from Liverpool.” His adjusting season was last season. He’s a young striker new to the Premier League, and everything about him fits in well, but things didn’t go as well as he would have liked. But I believe we’ll see a different Liverpool player this season.”
Nunez can improve a couple facets of his game and become a more well-rounded player with the help of Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool coaching staff. Given that he has completed a full Premier League season, he will be eager to demonstrate that he is a world-class player this season.
Darwin Nunez (24) had a mediocre debut season at Liverpool, scoring nine goals in 29 Premier League appearances. However, his preseason performances have been remarkable, and he has demonstrated that he is ready to compete with the best in the league.
For the Reds, Nunez
He scored four goals and assisted once in 180 minutes of preseason action, including the Bayern game. Nunez’s performances for Benfica in the Champions League during the 2021/22 season were exceptional. This displays his capacity to produce on a large scale and predicts that he will be able to replicate this form for Liverpool in the future season.
Jurgen Klopp’s attitude toward Nunez has altered as well, with the Liverpool boss expressing trust in Nunez’s overall influence after completing his first full season at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp has a headache because there are so many offensive possibilities. Darwin’s case should strengthen and he should get off to a good start against Chelsea on August 13th, when the league season kicks off.
Hopefully, Ferdinand is correct about Nunez and we will witness an incredibly clinical goalscorer next season and beyond.
