PSG spends another 80 мillion euros to buy Cristiano Ronaldo’s successor, preparing to bid farewell to Mbappe

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly ‘closing in’ on a deal to acquire Benfica centre-forward Goncalo Ramos.

Manchester United had been interested in signing the Portuguese striker earlier this summer, with Erik ten Hag’s side having ‘been prepared to table a club-record bid’ for the Benfica star.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Luis Enrique’s side are ‘very close’ on a £69million deal with add-ons to sign the striker, with Ramos having agreed a contract until June 2028.

The Italian journalist adds that the ‘final details are being sorted’ and claims that ‘the deal could be completed this week’.

It comes as Man United are on the verge of announcing new signing of Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta on a £72m deal after he underwent a medical earlier this week.

While it seems the Red Devils are on the cusp of securing secured a new striker, reports had suggested that they were also willing to make a bid of around £69m to sign Ramos back in June.

The club’s new captain, Bruno Fernandes, had urged United to sign his compatriot, claiming that the 22-year-old could become one of the best strikers in world football.

‘The best always come in handy, be it Goncalo or another player. He has all the qualities to play in the Premier League, and when I say Premier League I also mean Manchester United.

‘I think he could become a great reference in the coming years, but it’s still not in my hands to be sports director… Goncalo has all the conditions to play in the Premier League, he is very intense, presses very well and is very good inside the area.’

A product of Benfica’s youth system, Ramos enjoyed a break out season scoring 27 goals in 46 appearances for the Portuguese champions.

He notably scored three times in the Champions League, utilizing his excellent finishing abilities to guide the Eagles to the quarter-finals of the European competition.

His hat-trick for Portugal in their 6-1 hammering of Switzerland during the 2022 World Cup garnered him the attention of many teams around Europe, with PSG now close on acquiring him.

It comes amid much uncertainty over Kylian Mbappe’s future at the Ligue 1 outfit, with Liverpool and Chelsea recently expressing their interest in the France World Cup winner.

PSG have been looking to reinforce their forward stocks and had also shown an interest in signing Hojlund last week and similarly had been eyeing up a move for Randal Kolo Muani.
