Aston Villa have had an eye-catching summer window so far, with Emery bringing in a number of high-profile players.
Indeed, Youri Tielemans, a free agent from Leicester City, got things started. Next up was Pau Torres, a center-back Emery knows well from their time together at Villarreal.
The biggest and finest was still to come, with Villa fending off the Saudi wealth of Al Nassr to sign Moussa Diaby for a club-record £51.9 million.
However, according to the most recent Anfield Watch report, Villa will have to work hard to keep one of their most promising young players.
According to the report, Liverpool and Newcastle have held negotiations with Jaden Philogene’s representation.
The versatile star can play as a winger on either flank or as a midfield three.
That adaptability has apparently piqued the interest of Reds manager Jurgen Klopp. Indeed, the idea of adding the Villa star to his ranks is said to have enticed the German.
Philogene shined while on loan at Cardiff City last season and has been a regular for Emery while returning at Villa Park during pre-season. On July 26, he also scored in Villa’s 2-0 friendly win over Fulham.
According to Anfield Watch, signing Philogene would be ‘difficult’ for Newcastle or Liverpool, owing to Villa’s refusal to sell.
Nonetheless, the pair will attempt, and both clubs have begun conversations with the player’s team.
So far, little is known about the two clubs’ expanding pursuits of the player. For the time being, this is clearly a prospective move in its infancy.
