Manchester United, who play in the Premier League, are reportedly in talks to acquire Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayndr this summer.
The 25-year-old is regarded as one of the league’s top keepers and has earned senior national team caps for Turkey. He has started 143 games for the club in all competitions for Turkey, during which time he has kept 44 clean sheets.
Bayndr spent his senior career with Ankargucu before making the switch to Fenerbahce in 2019. Although he is under contract with the club until 2027, Manchester United may be able to get his services for next to nothing. This is due to a very small release clause of €6 million.
For a goalie who is, at most, second string at Old Trafford, this is a steаl. Since David de Gea’s departure, Andre Onana has been the team’s starting goalkeeper. Given the uncertainty surrounding Dean Henderson’s future at the club, Manchester United really must sign a solid backup goalkeeper.
Man United and Bayindir’s agency are currently in negotiations, and it is unclear whether or not the English powerhouse would exercise the forward’s release clause. It’s a no-brainer at that price, allowing them to restock their goalie roster in time for the 2023–24 season.
Bayindir is a reliable goalkeeper who can hold his own against skilled shooters. He is known for his aggressiveness and tendency to run down the line. The Turkish international isn’t as good at passing as Onana is, so he won’t replace the Cameroonian if they’re both healthy and ready to play.
To defend his Carabao Cup title from last year, Erik ten Hag will need a lineup stacked with talented players. Old Trafford can now afford to add players who are both a good match for the system and at the peak of their careers, thanks to a return to the UEFA Champions League.
Since Sergio Romero left Manchester United, they haven’t had a solid backup goalkeeper. Even if they don’t sign Bayindir, the team’s roster improved with the arrival of Onana.
