Roberto Firmino joined Liverpool from Hoffenheim in 2015. Eight years later, he left the club as a legend.
A 23-year-old from a midfield team in Germany who has never set foot in the Premier League is no guarantee of success, but Firmino has helped Liverpool win every trophy during his time at Merseyside. What about the other six players who joined Liverpool with Firmino in the summer of 2015?
Joe Gomez
The first signing of the transfer window, Gomez made a big splash after making his Charlton Athletic debut at the age of 17. An injury early in the season put his career in doubt. But the Englishman has overcome that – and a number of other injuries – to show his quality at Liverpool. He came on from the bench in the 2019 Champions League final and played most of the matches as The Reds won the championship in 2020. Although he did not have a fixed starting position, he still did enough to sign a contract. only had a term of 5 years last summer.
Adam Bogdan
Liverpool have a knack for signing a lot of goalkeepers on free transfers over the years, and so has Bogdan. He was on the Liverpool staff for 4 years but only played twice in the Premier League, the reason was because in the first match, Bogdan gave Watford a goal in the 0-3 defeat, Liverpool’s heaviest defeat that season. .
He is now a free agent after three years back in Hungary with Ferencvaros.
Nathaniel Clyne
Clyne is one of the players to switch from Southampton to Liverpool – after Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren, but before Sadio Mane.
The right-back’s first season has not been so bad with 52 appearances in all competitions and a place in the England squad for Euro 2016 at the end of the season. However, after injuries prevented him from staying long, Nathaniel returned to boyhood club Crystal Palace in 2020 and remains a Premier League player.
Danny Ings
Ings is still considered by some Liverpool fans to be a great striker if not for bad luck. He scored 3 goals in 9 games in his first season but then had to stop playing due to injury. The former Burnley striker scored Liverpool’s fourth and final goal in a draw with West Brom in April 2018. He quickly left, scoring more than 50 goals for Southampton and Aston Villa before moving on to West Ham in January 2023.
James Milner
Milner ‘s experience and tenacity is a huge part of his value at Liverpool, not to mention a level of fitness most men in their 30s can only dream of. Milner surpassed 300 appearances for the Reds and was a valuable member of the Anfield team until his departure at the end of the recent season. His leadership and experience could add value to new club Brighton as they head towards the Europa League.
Christian Benteke
If Firmino’s Liverpool career has benefited greatly from a change of manager, the opposite is the case with Benteke.
He continues to play under Klopp but it seems that he is not the type of striker that fits the direction of the German strategist. He moved to Crystal Palace and had an impressive debut season. But he averaged just four goals a season over the past five years at Selhurst Park before Wayne Rooney’s move to DC United.
