A third shirt for Sporting Lisbon’s 2023–24 season has been announced, and it features a tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo in honor of the 20 years since the team relocated to the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
Sporting relocated to their new stadium next to the old one in 2003 after nearly 50 years at their former venue, which also bore the name of its founder.
The Primeira Liga club would play a Manchester United team that had just won the Premier League in the inaugural game played at the new stadium.
The 18-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo made his debut in that preseason game with a brilliant performance, leading the home team to a 3-1 victory and encouraging the United stars to convince Sir Alex Ferguson to sign him.
The new shirt for the team will have ‘CR7’ embroidered in place of the manufacturer’s emblem as a tribute to Ronaldo’s performance on that particular day.
