Messi’s 85th-minute shocker tied the Herons’ Round of 16 match at 4-4, requiring penalty kicks at Toyota Stadium. The top-corner curler handed the Argentine superstar a tournament-leading seven goals as he chases the Golden Boot trophy.
The scenes were reminiscent of Messi’s memorable 94th-minute goal that capped his first-ever MLS match, a 2-1 victory over Liga MX club Cruz Azul. The GOAT rarely misses while shooting up and over the wall.
