Tom Brady may be the most decorated player in NFL history, but the label “Dad” to his children is the most important.
The NFL quarterback has three children. He famously unretired from football in March 2022, then declared his retirement again in February 2023. He has a son with his former, actress Bridget Moynahan, named John “Jack” Edward Thomas, and two children with Gisele Bündchen, Benjamin Rein and Vivian Lake.
After 13 years of marriage, Bündchen and Brady separated on October 28, 2022. The divorced couple agreed to share custody of Benjamin and Vivian. Bündchen will remain in Miami, while Brady will relocate to Tampa, according to a source.
Brady sent a statement on Instagram shortly after the divorce news surfaced. “We are blessed with beautiful and wonderful children who will continue to be the center of our world in every way,” he said.
Brady, Bündchen, and Moynahan have been candid about parenthood, co-parenting, and living with a blended family throughout the years. Brady, too, has had to change his work-life balance in order to give his all to both his team and his family.
“Time is so valuable, and it’s easy to forget how quickly it can pass us by,” Brady told PEOPLE in 2019. “I try to remember that because it reminds you to prioritize the things you enjoy.” Because we will not live forever, we must make the most of our time.”
“I love my family so much, and I love what I do for a living so much,” he continued, “that I never, ever want to take those things for granted, and I really try to treasure every second.”
All three children attended the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ home opener in September 2022. Before the game, the siblings wished Brady luck on the sidelines and hugged him goodbye. Photographers captured the quarterback and Vivian, who was 9 at the time, having a sweet nose-to-nose moment.
Brady later revealed that it was his first Christmas without his children. He’ll be playing football on Thanksgiving for the first time in his career.
“It’ll be a new experience that I’ve never had before that I’m going to have to learn how to deal with,” he said on an edition of Let’s Go! with Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald, and Jim Gray. “I’m going to have to learn how to deal with Christmas and Christmas Eve while still being a professional and looking forward to celebrating Christmas with my kids the next day.”
While Brady may have missed Christmas with his children, he told PEOPLE in June 2023 that he and his youngest children have big plans for the summer. The football legend outlined a jam-packed itinerary that included travels to Disneyland and Europe, as well as a vacation to Brazil with Bündchen.
“They’ve got lots of good plans,” he added of Benjamin and Vivian. “These kids have a fantastic summer planned.”
Later that month, Brady spoke with PEOPLE about how he plans to spend his first summer without football. “I’m taking it every day, just one day at a time,” the seven-time Super Bowl champion stated. “I enjoy spending time with my family and trying to get some work done.” I’m still keeping myself active.”
Here’s everything you need to know about Tom Brady’s three kids.
Jack, 15
Brady was in a relationship with Moynahan from 2004 to 2006. Shortly after their divorce in 2006, the Blue Bloods actress announced that she had became pregnant before the couple split up. On August 22, 2007, the co-parents welcomed their son, John “Jack” Edward Thomas Moynahan, into the world in Santa Monica, California.
Prior to Jack’s birth, Brady was concerned about the “challenge” of parenthood, but he has now embraced the position entirely. Brady grew up in Massachusetts before joining the New England Patriots, but he relocated to Florida after joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also keeps a presence in New York for Jack, who lives largely with Moynahan and her husband, Andrew Frankel.
Bündchen and Moynahan have both spoken out about co-parenting and their blended families. In 2018, Moynahan told PEOPLE that she had already started dating Brady when she discovered she was pregnant, which “wasn’t the ideal situation” for them. “But I’m so grateful for [Bridget],” she continued. “I know it was difficult, but I can’t imagine my life without [Jack].” I refer to him as my “bonus child.”
Brady and his eldest son have many interests, including football. In August 2021, the football star revealed that Jack started as a ball boy for the Buccaneers, a job he took “very seriously.” That October, the Buccaneers shared a touching behind-the-scenes photo of Brady and his son walking side by side, which Brady subsequently described as the “best part” of his day.
Jack has expressed a desire to follow in his father’s footsteps. A source told PEOPLE in 2020 that Jack enjoys football and that he and his father frequently practice together. Brady revealed on his podcast that he urged Jack to pursue football after seeing his old mater, the University of Michigan, defeat rival Ohio State. “I had a little future Wolverine, my son Jack, sitting on the bed with me as I was jumping around and we were wrestling,” he said. “‘That’s where you’re going to be!'” You’re going to end up in the Big House someday. “You’re going to be Michigan’s starting quarterback.”
Brady paid honor to Jack’s 15th birthday on Instagram in August 2022.
“Happy Birthday, my beautiful son,” he said. “You are such a blessing in our lives.” We adore you and are so proud of the wonderful young man you have become. You brighten our days and make them more enjoyable.❤️❤️ “Have a wonderful 15th birthday, Jack.”
According to a source, Brady came to New York in September 2022 to watch Jack’s practice football game. “Tom was in great spirits and chatted with all the parents,” added the insider. “He flew all the way into town for the scrimmage.”
“He’s such a sweet dad and is always there for Jack,” said the source.
During an episode of his podcast, Let’s Go with Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald, and Jim Gray, in October 2022, Brady discussed what it’s like to watch Jack play quarterback on his high school football team. “I enjoy watching him play quarterback because there are very few things in life that I believe I could help him with,” the player added. “You know, I don’t have a lot of specialties in life other than probably throwing football.”
“He’s a lot smarter.” “He has a strong work ethic,” Brady remarked. “He’s just a wonderful kid.” But I can certainly assist him as quarterback.”
Brady brought Jack to the Buccaneers’ practice field over the Thanksgiving break. Brady’s eldest son was caught mid-throw by a team photographer as the NFL quarterback stood nearby.
Brady captioned the shot on Instagram, “My Inspiration.” In the comments section, Bündchen later added her own red heart emoji.
13-year-old Benjamin Rein
Brady and Bündchen married in February 2009 and welcomed their first child, Benjamin Rein, on December 8, 2009, in Boston. The pair commented on their son’s home delivery in the ESPN+ series Man in the Arena: Tom Brady, which Brady was initially suspicious of. He eventually agreed and now recalls the incident fondly, saying, “Me being there with G at his birth in our home, it lives in my mind.” “I believe we welcomed this boy into the world in the most precious way.”
Brady has stated that while he anticipated his two sons would share similar interests, Benjamin isn’t a big sports fan, which was difficult for the sportsman at first.
“‘C’mon, let’s do this,’ I said. And he said, ‘Nope.’ ‘What?’ I thought. No, do this!’ ” he told Men’s Health. “And Gisele kept saying to me,’Would you effing understand that your son is different?'”
“It was difficult for me,” he added. ‘What do you mean?’ I asked. He’s a boy; he should do everything that I do.”
Brady, on the other hand, has come to accept Benjamin’s preferences, noting, “The reality is that Benny just likes different things.” And it’s amazing because now all I have to do is go do what he wants. We have the nicest time when we do this. ‘OMG, Dad, you’re so funny,’ he exclaims. He enjoys joking, and I enjoy joking back.”
Benjamin made a cameo appearance in his mother’s debut TikTok video in May 2020, making a special appearance while his parents competed in a couples’ challenge. The video concluded with the query, “Who is never wrong?” As Benjamin jumped into the frame to claim the title, his parents both pointed backward rather than forward.
Bündchen and Brady both published Instagram images to commemorate Benjamin’s 12th birthday. Bündchen tweeted with a snap of the mother-son combo hugging, “You are growing up way too fast!” I am so proud of the kind and wonderful son you are, and I consider myself blessed to be your mother. “I adore you so much!”
“Happy Birthday, Benny!” his father posted a photo of Benjamin alone. “In every aspect, you are A M A Z I N G. You have taught me so much, and I am very grateful to be your father!”
The ecstatic parents celebrated their son’s 13th birthday on December 8, 2022, with another round of Instagram posts. “Happy 13th birthday to the newest teenager,” Brady captioned a photo of his son sitting on a water bottle with his chin resting on it.
“You are very special and well-liked. “There is no greater gift than being your father,” said the athlete. “Benny, we love you so much.”
Bündchen left a single red heart comment on Brady’s page after giving her own homage to the boy. “We’ve got a new teen in the house!” Happy birthday, my precious angel! “I am so proud of the kind, loving, and courageous young man that you are,” she wrote beside a carousel of photographs of Benjamin. “Thank you for bringing us so much happiness. “We adore you!” the supermodel added.
Bündchen told Vanity Fair in March 2023 that Ben, who favors “non-ball” sports like surfing and skiing, has felt the “athletic pressure of being Brady’s son.” She described a specific incident in which Ben was bullied by teammates after a recreational baseball game in Boston.
10 Vivian Lake
Vivian Lake, the couple’s daughter, was born on December 5, 2012, in Boston. Brady told ESPN a few days after her birth, “I grew up in a house with three sisters.” I think it’s excellent for my guys to have a lady around, just to learn a little bit about what makes a woman tick — not that I can figure it out, because I can’t. She’s a lovely little kid.”
Brady confesses to being a softie around Vivian when she was a youngster. “That little girl owns my day — owns my life,” he said in 2016 to Entertainment Tonight. “It’s impossible for me to say no to anything.” Whatever she orders her father to do, I do. That’s just the way things are.”
Vivian loves her father the same way and cheers him on during major games, including his first game against the Patriots after leaving them a year before. Vivian, Benjamin, and Bündchen even dressed up for Halloween as the “Tampa Bay Pirates,” a nod to Brady’s franchise.
Vivian and her mother have similar interests, such as yoga and meditation.
Brady tweeted a hilarious caution for Vivian’s prospective suitors on his Instagram on October 2, 2022. He posted a photo of a Halloween prop: a tombstone with the words “Anyone who dates my daughter.”
“I want to be crystal clear about this,” Brady said on Instagram, accompanied by two crying-laughing emojis.
Vivian has been more outspoken as she has grown older and wiser. During an appearance on Let’s Go! with Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald, and Jim Gray, the quarterback said that his daughter dislikes his trademark scowl.
“My daughter always says, ‘Daddy, you did not have a happy face out there.'” And I’m making an effort! I wish I was more aware of what the scowl looks like, but I’m doing my best to go to a better place and find some serenity out there,” he remarked.
Brady celebrated his youngest’s 10th birthday with a sweet Instagram post on December 5, 2022. The NFL player uploaded a snapshot of himself embracing Benjamin and Vivian at New York City’s Bryant Park’s holiday market. “Vivi, happy tenth birthday!” We adore you and your lovely heart! You make our lives so much more enjoyable! Brady put in the caption, “We love you.”
Brady and his pal David Beckham brought their girls on a nice daddy-daughter double date in Miami in January 2023. The sportsmen then took to Instagram to share images from the evening.
