Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has named two Liverpool players he would choose for the captain’s armband instead of Virgil van Dijk.
After 12 years playing for Liverpool, captain midfielder Jordan Henderson decided to join the Saudi Arabian club Al Ettifaq to play football under the guidance of coach Steven Gerrard. Last season, when Henderson did not play, James Milner would wear the captain’s armband of the Red Brigade.
However, James Milner also left Liverpool before Henderson. The English player joined Brighton on a free transfer. With the current situation, Liverpool need a new captain. It is reported that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be the new captain of the Port City team.
However, Virgil van Dijk is the one trusted by coach Jurgen Klopp. Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold became vice-captain. The Dutchman has been a standout player since joining Liverpool in 2018 for a fee of £75m, making him Liverpool captain no surprise.
The latest, former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique disagrees with the choice of coach Klopp. He said: “If I were Jurgen Klopp, I would give the Liverpool captaincy to Andy Robertson or Alisson. Maybe Klopp doesn’t want to give Alisson the armband because he’s a goalkeeper, but I think he deserves it.”
“I don’t think Liverpool really have another Jordan Henderson, but I like Robertson a lot. Robertson is a leader and he gives everything. Last year made me doubt a lot about Van Dijk, he got injured and his form is not as good as before. But I respect Klopp’s choice.”
This summer, Liverpool have had many personnel changes, they have parted ways with Henderson, Milner, Firmino and Fabinho, in the opposite direction this team has added Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
