Harvey Elliott may have been a Chelsea player, but as a youth he was rejected by the Blues.
Elliott discussed on the We Are Liverpool Podcast how he was rejected by Chelsea when he was a young player.
The midfielder claims that the Blues rejected him because he was too little, despite the fact that they acknowledged that he was the most technically proficient player in his age group.
Elliott was not accepted by Chelsea.
The midfielder discussed Chelsea’s rejection of him.
“Are I correct in assuming Chelsea rejected you as a child? What was the justification behind that?” Elliott was solicited.
“Frankly, it was due to the fact that I was too little. I recall that they stated that, technically speaking, I was one of the best members of the group, but I was too little. Elliott stated, “I don’t believe I’ve ever felt anything comparable in my football career, in terms of how I felt after they said that.”
“As a little child and realizing that you cannot play or be signed. I believed my football career was over and I would never play again. I respected their decision, played a bit of Sunday League with my mates, and then moved to Fulham.”
There is truly no justification for Chelsea’s actions.
True, size formerly mattered, especially in English football, but by the time Elliott came along, this illusion had been substantially disproved.
In the early 2010s, the tiki-take revolution had already occurred. Lionel Messi, Xavi, and Andres Iniesta were three of the world’s four best footballers, and they were all smaller than the average player.
Chelsea should have realized that size is no longer everything in football, and rejecting Elliott because of his body was incredibly shortsighted.
Chelsea’s loss has proven to be Liverpool’s gain, and the Blues will rue missing out on the “great” midfielder for years.
