Liverpool’s third proposal for Romeo Lavia has been rejected, as Southampton maintains that the 19-year-old is worth £50 million.
Paul Joyce took to Twitter to inform that the club’s third proposal of £45 million had been rejected.
So far, each bid has been worth:
£34 million
£4 million
£42m
£45m
Jamie Carragher has publicly called the chase “embarrassing.” Most notably, he stated, “If you don’t believe, he’s worth £50 million.” One step forward. If you really want him, pay the price.”
Despite the failure of their move to buy the Belgian, Liverpool continue in talks, according to Sky Sports writer Melissa Reddy.
According to James Pearce of the Athletic, Lavia is “desperate” to join Liverpool after Dutch news outlet HLN revealed on Monday morning that he “really wants” to join the club.
Liverpool’s overall transfer strategy has lacked the cutting edge that it has shown in recent years, and with public interest in the midfielder, they have put themselves in a position where supporters and analysts are legitimately questioning the reasoning behind it.
Southampton have made it clear to all interested teams that they will not transfer Lavia for less than £50 million, with Paul Joyce now stating that they will only sell the player if offers exceed that sum.
Should Liverpool shift their focus to Caicedo?
With Carragher implying that Liverpool should be in the running to sign Moises Caicedo, it’s an intriguing one to consider.
Even though he would be an automatic starter at Anfield, the Ecuadorian is not the type of midfielder that Liverpool has been lacking since the departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
A double departure left Jurgen Klopp with no good choices for the No.6 position. Last season ended with a dearth of competent box-to-box midfielders, and with the additions of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, Klopp’s team has been stripped naked once more.
The choice to sell Henderson and Fabinho wasn’t necessarily a bad one because both midfielders were past their prime, but Liverpool’s reaction has been questionable.
Liverpool will suffer much more if they do not pay the asking fee for Lavia.
With less than a week until the start of the 2023/24 Premier League season, FSG must pay up and authorise the funds needed to catch up to Arsenal and Manchester City.
