To say the least, Ronald Jones has had a difficult few days. The veteran running back suffered a groin injury during the Dallas Cowboys’ annual Blue-White Practice on Saturday and did not return to the game.
Head coach Mike McCarthy announced on Monday that Jones “will miss some time” in the future, though the exact length of his absence has yet to be determined.
Jones received a two-game ban earlier this week, which he described as “disappointing” before going on to explain the circumstances around it — specifically, a “heart stimulant” prescribed by a doctor, which led to the NFL levying punishment.
The 26-year-old signed as a free agent with the Cowboys this offseason after the team parted ways with Ezekiel Elliott, and was viewed as the de facto RB2 behind Tony Pollard, who may bring a more traditional power skill set.
Despite the news of his suspension, he got off to a fast start on Saturday, but he’ll have to wait to get back on the field to work the chip off his shoulder.
In his absence, expect Malik Davis, Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, and Hunter Luepke to get more reps, making it even more difficult for Jones when he returns to the practice field.
