During the New England Patriots’ 12th training camp practice, several players stood out, both positively and negatively. Here are five notable performances from the practice session:
TE Mike Gesicki: Gesicki made an exceptional one-handed catch on a pass from Mac Jones, out-leaping defenders Jabrill Peppers and Myles Bryant for a touchdown. This impressive play showcased Gesicki’s potential as a red zone threat.
WR Tyquan Thornton: After a couple of average practices, Thornton had a promising day. He performed well in one-on-one drills, made strong catches in team drills, and scored a touchdown over rookie Ameer Speed.
OT Sidy Sow: Sow rebounded from a challenging previous day by performing better in individual pass blocking drills and earning an opportunity to play alongside the starting offense, protecting Mac Jones’ right side.
DE Keion White: Rookie Keion White continued to shine, displaying clean wins in one-on-one drills against offensive linemen Jake Andrews and Conor McDermott.
OT Conor McDermott: McDermott had a less impressive day, struggling against Keion White and Josh Uche in one-on-one drills. He also drew a holding penalty and was placed second on the depth chart at right tackle.
Additionally, rookies Malik Cunningham and Demario Douglas received mention. Cunningham, typically a wide receiver, saw quarterback reps for the second day, while Douglas had an active practice but had to run a lap after mishandling a punt.
The Patriots’ next appearance will be in their preseason opener against the Houston Texans on Thursday night at Gillette Stadium. The matchup will give fans a chance to see how the team is progressing as they prepare for the upcoming season.
