Following the departure of Fabinho, Liverpool have been linked with Kalvin Phillips as a midfielder option.
The Manchester City midfielder scarcely got a chance at the Etihad Stadium last season, therefore it stands to reason that the £45 million player will leave the club this summer.
Liverpool were rumored to be interested in Phillips, but according to David Ornstein, that move may no longer be feasible.
Indeed, in an interview with Hayters TV, Ornstein claimed that, while there has been much conjecture about Phillips, he now expects the midfielder to stay at the Premier League champions.
Phillips will remain
Ornstein revealed his knowledge of Phillips.
“They still have Kalvin Phillips there, and despite a lot of speculation, I expect him to stay and compete for his spot next season.” They signed Declan Rice, so are they still looking for someone in that position?” According to Ornstein.
More opportunities?Phillips is poised to stay at City this summer, and we have a feeling he’ll get more opportunities at the Etihad this season.
If Phillips is likely to spend more time on the bench this season, he will almost certainly be looking for a move away from City.
We’ve seen before how it takes take a season or two for Pep Guardiola to get things going. Both Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez needed a season to learn out the system, and Phillips might go through the similar process this summer.
Phillips may not be heading to Liverpool, but he appears to be in for an eventful season with his present club.
