Despite a contract to sign Joe Rodon on loan from Tottenham, Leeds United are allegedly still interested in Liverpool defender Nat Phillips.
According to the Athletic, the Whites want to acquire another centre-back before the transfer deadline, with Phillips still coveted by Leeds after Liverpool put him available for sale.
The Athletic previously stated that Phillips can go for as little as £10 million, a sum that Leeds may be willing to spend to lure the 26-year-old to Elland Road for the forthcoming Championship season.
Phillips, described as’superb’ by former VfB Stuttgart sporting director Sven Mislintat, could be a huge assist to Liverpool’s transfer intentions for the final month of the market.
With the Whites still interested in the defender, there is a fair chance Phillips will be sold, albeit £10m may be too much for the Elland Road giants.
Indeed, Leeds have spent well this summer, and are now ready to sign both Rodon on loan and Max Aarons from Norwich City, suggesting that matching Liverpool’s £10 million pay for Phillips may be too much for the Whites.
Leeds and Liverpool must work out a deal for Phillips
Phillips is looking for a new permanent home this summer, and Leeds might be the ideal destination for the defender, with Liverpool now having to discuss transfer terms.
From Leeds’ standpoint, £10m may suddenly be considered too much for Phillips, and as a result, Liverpool may need to reassess their expectations for the centre-back this summer.
With Leeds still interested, the Reds have a chance to negotiate a deal with the Championship club for Phillips, who might thrive in the second division at Elland Road.
