Manchester United have accepted Fenerbahce’s offer for Fred, and a personal terms agreement has been reached, paving the way for Erik ten Hag to complete his fourth major signing of the summer.
Following the arrivals of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, Fred fell down the pecking order last term. Mason Mount has since been added to the mix and is expected to be used in Ten Hag’s double pivot.
With Manchester United also turning down a £30 million bid from West Ham for Scott McTominay, Fred may have been no better than fifth choice in the engine room if he stayed at Old Trafford.
As a result, United made it clear that they were willing to cash in, and a move to Turkey swiftly took form.
Galatasaray were the first to make a bid, but it was bitter rival Fenerbahce who came in with a more appropriate offer.
Indeed, the Turkish behemoth offered €15 million (about £13 million) for the 30-year-old Brazilian international.
According to Fabrizio Romano, not only has Man United accepted the proposal, but personal terms have also been agreed upon between Fred and Fenerbahce.
The trusted transfer guru gave the transaction his signature “here we go” approval before noting that a medical will be scheduled soon.
Fred out, Amrabat in?
Fred’s departure, paired with Donny van de Beek’s likely loan to Real Sociedad, is expected to open the door for Manchester United to pursue Sofyan Amrabat.
Ten Hag is looking for a new holding midfielder to compete with Casemiro, and the Moroccan, 26, is said to be at the top of his shortlist.
Amrabat has already agreed to join Manchester United, but a deal cannot be finalized until United has the necessary finances.
United will be poised to strike for Amrabat soon, with Fred on his way to Turkey.
If he is successful, he will join Andre Onana, Mount, and Rasmus Hojlund in joining United this summer.
