‘Help the team win wherever I can’ – Will Grier hopes to establish routine during preseason

Will Grier has a healthier physical body and a healthier confidence heading into the preseason game on Saturday.

As he enters his sixth NFL season, his goal is to not just place himself in a strong position to play, but also to help the team win wherever he can.

Grier is calm going into Saturday’s debut against Jacksonville, despite any pressure that comes with being a depth quarterback in preseason.

“I feel a lot healthier than I did last year, and that’s a different approach for me,” Grier said. “I don’t have much on my mind right now.” Individually, my goal is to perform my best and help the Cowboys win.”

Grier’s outstanding preseason will almost certainly buy him additional time in the Dallas system, where he has seen significant progress both with the coaching staff and alongside Dak Prescott, with whom he practiced for the most of the winter.

His goal for the next three games is to just carry the enthusiasm from the offseason into the games in order to develop the consistency required from his position.

“I think it’s just being consistent and not making mistakes,” he explained. “At this point in my career, I believe it is simply a matter of playing time for me.” I know I can play, and I believe the coaches do as well. They want to see me run the ball down the field and execute. At the end of the day, I know I’ll be ready and that I’ll appreciate what I record.”

A lot of attention has been focused on the young receiving group that has emerged throughout training camp, and it’s a group that Grier has become acquainted with this month in Oxnard.

“It’s a good group,” he commented. “They understand what needs to be done. I’ve been watching them grow since the spring, and they’re sharp, man. It’s like a game, and they don’t want to be the one who makes a mistake.”

Grier is looking forward to that group assisting both themselves and him in making plays in order for him to have success in the preseason.

“They’ve been so dialed in,” Grier observed. “It’s different when the lights come on, so I’m looking forward to seeing them play.” I’m looking forward to seeing some of these things come to life, and I’m going to give these players opportunities to make contested catches. I’m an aggressive player who will take some shots, and I trust these guys to bring the ball down.”
