The Patriots have added to their running back room following a difficult showing by the department on Thursday night.
New England has signed running back C.J. Marable, as first reported by PFN’s James Larsen and confirmed by Aaron Wilson. The team worked him out last week and apparently signed him on Friday night.
In 2021, Marable was undrafted before signing with the Chicago Bears. Marable went on to play two seasons with the USFL Birmingham Lions after being dismissed following training camp. He won two championships with the club. On August 11, he was released from his contract in order to sign with the Patriots.
Marable rushed for 2,859 yards and 29 touchdowns on 491 attempts over three seasons at Coastal Carolina. He was a capable receiving back who grabbed 12 touchdowns in three seasons.
He’ll join Rhamondre Stevenson, Ty Montgomery, Pierre Strong Jr., Kevin Harris, and JJ Taylor in the running back room.
