Liverpool’s Premier League campaign kicks off on Sunday, when the Reds travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.
Games versus the Blues have recently gotten frustrating. Since Liverpool defeated them on penalties in both 2021/22 cup games, two draws last season were consistent with an overall uneven performance.
Four 0-0 draws in a row, including two extra-time periods, means that neither team has scored in 420 minutes of play. Strong pre-season performances by Liverpool’s attacking players suggest that streak may be broken, with the Reds benefiting from a full clean bill of health in terms of forward options.
This week saw the return of two crucial Liverpool players to training. Thiago Alcântara and Stefan Bajeti, who have both been suffering injuries, are both concerns for this one as they work towards match fitness, but Jürgen Klopp may be confident about their return, with the two Spaniards expected to be vital for the team this season.
Tyler Morton will be out of the senior team for some time as he recovers from a broken foot suffered during his loan spell with Blackburn Rovers in April.
With Premier League 2 action not starting until Monday, Klopp has a variety of young players to chose from before deciding who will mostly play for the U23s. Ben Doak has been one of the preseason’s standouts, and Jarell Quansah also appears to be a future star.
However, with the senior squad still two acquisitions short in midfield, Bobby Clark has the best chance of featuring from the Reds prospects. Fabinho is the more important player to replace as Liverpool faces the first day of the season without a senior number six midfielder.
