Rookie Jurrien Timber suffered an injury in the first match in the Premier League which made the Arsenal staff, especially coach Mikel Arteta, very worried.
In the match against Nottingham, Timber was arranged to play as a left-back supporting rookie Kai Havertz and striker Gabriel Martinelli. Timber was hurt after a collision with striker Brennan Johnson on the away team. However, he still tried to play until the two teams entered the break. It is worth mentioning that when the second half just started a few minutes, Timber sat down on the field holding his legs and was in great pain even though he didn’t collide with anyone.
Seeing that the situation was unstable, Arteta decided to withdraw the student and replace him with Takehiro Tomiyasu. After the match, the Spanish strategist shared about Timber’s injury situation:
“The referee and the doctors all agreed to let Timber continue the game. He himself felt the same way. But at the beginning of the second half, things didn’t go well and we had to pull Timber off the pitch. Now, We’re going to run tests to see how serious things are.”
Timber’s injury did not affect Arsenal’s game much. The Gunners still won 2-1 despite encountering much turbulence in the last minutes.
As for Timber, before the match, he shared his feelings about the end of last season for Arsenal: “It was really painful. You can see Man City is better and better and it is difficult to hit. beat them. Arsenal dropped six points from two games against Man City. In the end, it’s hard for them to make up for that. But it’s fun to watch and enjoy the title race.”
On the launch day of the new club, Timber expressed his love for Arsenal, revealing that he had followed the team since childhood with his idols being two famous strikers Robin van Persie and Thierry Henry.
